How To Stop Stuttering

April 25th, 2010 Neil Warner No comments

I have to say that I hated having a stutter. Hate is a very strong word but in a way it does not come close to the way in which this speech impediment affected my life. For example when I spoke to what is now my ex-girlfriend I very rarely had a problem, however when attempting to speak to her parents I struggled quite badly.

I was at a loss to comprehend why I could speak free from this speech impediment to person A but that I could not talk fluently to person B. I did attended various forms of stammering treatments but to no avail.

I read many books about speech imediments, achieving fluency and about how to stop stammering, about a potential stammering cure and spoke to many speech therapists. From what I read and from what I was told, I was made to believe that I was unable to live a stuttering-free life as it suggested you are unable to eradicate a stutter. This was not really the form of stammering advice that I was looking for; I wanted specialised therapy etc.

I was not exactly impressed with the negativity – I am a person who believes in the power of positive thinking.

Bruce Willis was one the television during one evening – he was being interviewed by one of the famous chat shows. He stated that he had had a stutter which had started when he was a young boy, however he had managed to achieve fluency when he was a late teenager. I felt inspired and then decided that the time had come when I needed to try to also achieve total fluency.

After nearly a year of working very hard and with the help of watching a seventy minute DVD that I purchased from The How To Stop Stuttering Centre I was able to achieve fluency. I now have a much more fulfilling life and I also have a successful career selling front doors.

Stuttering can be overcome with hard work and a lot of desire; if I can do it then so could you.

One-to-one Fluency Course For People Who Stutter

March 8th, 2010 Neil Warner No comments

Over the last few years the popularity of specialised communication courses for stuttering has increased in a big way. The courses are normally held over a five-day period however there are also a two and three day option available. The courses themselves are run by a person who knows all about the subject of stammering and stuttering due to the fact that he had this type of speech impediment for eighteen years of his life before managing to achieve fluency when he was aged twenty-two.

These “stuttering courses” are held in the UK, in the second largest city of Birmingham. The How to Stop Stuttering Centre has been offering these speech courses since 1996 and Steve Hill who runs them has regularly been featured within the media during that time including a front page appearance on the much respected Daily Telegraph.

Steve has also produced a number of self-help products for the people who are not able to attend a stuttering speech course in England. These include a seventy minute DVD, an audio book and an e-book.

Over the last three months a new form of therapy has been added; speech coaching for people who stutter via Skype. This is where people are able to communicate with Steve whilst also watching his responses on their computer screens. This abilty to watch the speech coach describe and demonstrate the techniques is of great benefit in speech pathology.

So what about the feedback for such a course? Well thus far the feedback has been extremely positive hence why there is such a demand for these types of specialist stuttering therapy courses.

There is currently a three month waiting period to attend one of the three and five-day courses and for this reason Steve Hill has now commenced running a two day weekend course as well.

To achieve fluency I realised that I needed to start thinking in a much more positive manner; out went the negativity and in came a whole new “I can do it” approach. This really is the only way to go and I only regret that I did not realise this a whole lot earlier.

How To Attain Your Goals

March 3rd, 2010 Neil Warner No comments

A few years ago I realised the importance of setting goals and targets. I thought about what I wanted to be and which course I wanted my life to take. I wrote out three different lists of my aims for the future.

The first list included what I wanted to achieve within the next twelve months. The second list contained what I wanted to achieve within five years and the third list was my lifetime goals.

One of my goals was to do with my composite front doors business. I wanted to ensure that the world would get to know about the fact that I offer affordable composite doors.

I had read that it of benefit to write any goals or targets down to ensure that one can keep focused.

Invest time and money to reach your goals

I now had a determination to succeed and was willing to work hard to achieve my goals. To achieve anything in life takes time and dedication. One of my aims was to overcome stuttering. To do this I had to learn the art of relaxation, I have always been very hard on myself and had spent most of my life worrying about things that may happen in the future. I decided to ease up on myself and to even have monthly treats to keep me and my body happy. I did this by attending reflexology sessions and for a short period I tried aromatherapy. After working extremely hard with copious amounts of dedication I did manage to achieve fluency – I was very proud of my efforts as you can no doubt imagine.

Avoid negative people

There are people out there who try to bring me down. They attempt to do this by off the cuff comments they make or just by the way they seem to look down on me. They would look down their noses at me. These type of people have caused me many sleepless nights and have had a negative affect on my self-confidence.

Life is now good and my business career has now taken off and I am now working with a company who offer a cost reduction strategy which I have to say is very enjoyable.

I hope that you have found this article interesting and of benefit.

How To Think In A Positive Manner

February 21st, 2010 Neil Warner No comments

We all face problems or hurdles as we travel along the road of life, this article gives my viewpoint on how to deal with these issues. I have personally taken inspiration from my favourite football team, Birmingham City. They have a famous song which their supporters regularly sing, it is called, keep right on to the end of the road.

I have often been amazed by the passion and the buzz that I get when going to watch them, and also the passion of the rest of the crowd. During one season, these supporters without knowing it, taught me a huge lesson. The season in question had been a very poor one for Birmingham and it resulted in the team being relegated to the then second division (the leagues have been reformed since then and this division is now known as the first division). This was the lowest point the club had ever reached.

There was only one more match of the season remaining which would be at home and our team had already been consigned to relegation. At most clubs the fans would no doubt give the players some stick and would make it an uncomfortable afternoon for them. Not so at Birmingham, the fans were as passionate as ever and continued to support and cheer them on. At one point a leaflet was sent round the Birmingham supporters which had been produced by the supporters club members. It stated on this leaflet that despite the club reaching its lowest point, that they wanted as many fans as possible to travel to the last match of the season, which would be in London. This was to show the team that we still supported them and that we would be back the next season. I went to that match as did around six thousand other Birmingham fans. One song was sang throughout the whole match, keep right on to the end of the road. It was an amazing experience for me and one that I will never forget. As many pundits predicted Birmingham ended up losing the match but the supporters did not really care~As many pundits predicted Birmingham ended up losing the match but the supporters did not really care}~As many pundits predicted Birmingham ended up losing the match but the supporters did not really care}.

Later I thought about what had happened. I realised that when I felt a bit depressed, I needed to think of that day and to quickly pick myself up. I was basically a person who would always think negatively about things and I now realised that had to start thinking much more positively. This is not easy however but is something that I try hard to do~I am not trying to suggest that this is easy however I do try my best to do it}. I had a negative attitude in part due to the fact that I had a speech impediment. With this new found attitude I eventually found a way of stopping stuttering and I have now been fluent for the last fourteen years.

I have also gained success in my business life selling voucher codes for a local composite door company. It is amazing what a good approach can have on the sales of these affordable front doors. I also work with a group of experts who advise on jobs in foster care.

My belief is that positive people have positive and happy lives. This is what I want and the above example has helped me to get back onto my feet many times.

Communication Course To Help Improve Fluency And To Overcome Stuttering

The popularity and demand for the one-to-one communication therapy courses for stuttering is growing every year. Often referred to as “stuttering therapy courses” they offer one-to-one speech coaching over a two, three or five-day period.
