The Concept Of Chakra Meditation
Chakra Meditation, or Chakra Healing aims at looking inwards as distinct from looking outwards and looking at surroundings as we do most of the time. Looking outwards often makes us forget what we are and what we are capable of. Meditation leads to our becoming aware of our potential and capabilities or in short achieving self realization. Meditation also gives the opportunity to sift, analyze and evaluate what we learn from our experiences in everyday life, thus making it possible to assimilate the correct knowledge and discard the incorrect. Moreover, chakra meditation, or also called Chakra Balancing, reduces tensions and promotes physical and mental relaxation.
Chakra Meditation – A Primer
The meditation whose basic aim is to align the movement of all the seven primary Chakras in the body is termed as Chakra Meditation. Our body consists of 7 primary and over 20,000 secondary Chakras. For a better understanding of Chakra Meditation, it’s important to know what and where are the primary Chakras in the body:
*Root Chakra. This chakra is situated at the base of our spine. It is related to the element earth. It controls our health and prosperity.
*Orange or Naval or Sacral Chakra located at the center of abdomen and related to the element ‘Water’. It governs our emotions and sexuality.
*Solar Plexus or Power Chakra located just above the naval region and related to the element ‘Fire’. It governs our will power, autonomy, and metabolism.
*Heart Chakra. This chakra lies around our heart and is related to most important of the five elements that is the air. This controls our feelings, relationships and sense of compassion for others.
*Throat Chakra located at the base of the throat and related to the element ‘Sound’. It governs clear communication, creativity, and resonance during our entire lifespan.
*Brow or The Third Eye Chakra located between the brows on the forehead and related to the element ‘Light’. It governs perception, interpretation, imagination, and clear vision.
*Crown Chakra governing your wisdom and knowledge is located at the top of the head and related to the element ‘thought’.
By concentrating and synchronizing these vital energy centers, one can achieve a calming influence on the mind resulting in stress-free existence and a contented life. Chakra Meditation also helps in naturally healing any ailment related to these 7 vital energy centers.
Chakra Meditation Techniques
Chakra Meditation is the sum total of the following three techniques:
*Grounding Technique refers to the process whereby, your body feels connected with Earth. The visualization involves assuming a root growing from your body and entering into the Earth, thus, transfixing your body to the ground. With some intense focus and determination, you can achieve this state of Chakra Meditation.
*Centering Technique, which aims at preparing your body to receive the benefits of Chakra Meditation. Just take three to five deep breaths and visualize relaxation of every body part from toe to crown. In simple words, just tighten and relax each body part from toe to the crown, and then visualize the act of centering a pot on a pottery wheel.
*Relaxation Technique, which is the final step in Chakra Meditation. There is no hard and fast rule to relax your body. Everyone has his or her own method of relaxation.
One of the popular methods of Chakra Meditation is detailed below:
*Sit or lie down in a comfortable posture like Padmasan.
*Close your eyes and loosen your clothing. The idea is to be in a natural state without any kind of artificial compulsion on the body and mind.
*Have relaxed rhythmic breathing at a normal breathing rate so that you have a control on your breath.
*The next step relates to feeling every part of your body from toe to head in that direction. While your eyes are closed, try to feel everything that you would’ve seen with open eyes, like earth, air, clothes, surroundings etc. The idea is to feel awareness even with closed eyes.
*Initially, your efforts will be met with stiff resistance from negative thoughts and emotions. Don’t suppress them! They’ll disappear with time and practice.
*Feel every subtle inner detail and let your awareness travel freely from one body part to the other.
There is no particular time of charka meditation it can be performed at any time convenient to you. The duration should be as per your choice. The posture should be according to your choice and should be comfortable to you.
